Archives: Notes

  • There’s a lot of discussion about politics in conference talks following this post. The Stonewall Inn photo in my latest slide deck wasn’t an accident, it was a reaction to Australia’s hateful same-sex marriage survey.

  • OH: he was here yesterday (true story), he’s an excellent table.

See, I told you I’m a fucking delight.

  • Looking forward to this one, it’s not often you get to see Uma Thurman in her broadway debut.

  • Buffer’s state of remote work. https://open.buffer.com/state-remote-work-2018/

    My status:

    • environment: office (paid by @humanmadeltd)
    • vacation: usually 32 days with public/bank holidays (min 28 is policy)
    • nomad: <5%
    • hours: 9-10hr M-Th, bugger off early Fri
    • hope to be remote til retirement
  • Building diverse teams requires hiring devs without open-source contributions. Underrepresented groups—parents and other carers—simply may not have the time even if they have the inclination.

  • @angelsbway is excellent; the cast, the staging, everything. It’s quite a disconnect as friends back home celebrate Mardi Gras to be watching a play set when it was a protest for health care.

  • No. It’s always no.

  • One of the most enjoyable parts of seeing popular shows is the audience comradary. It might be strangers helping take photos in front of signage or chatting to your neighbors; a random act of friendship will happen.

  • Life hack: visit the Richard Rodgers Theatre box office to ask “what have you got in the next few days?” It may turn out to be orchestra sides on the aisle.

Michael Luwoye is an excellent A. Ham and the woman next to me seeing the show with her grandson was delightful.

  • Video from my talk at LoopConf last week is up. I’ve added it alongside my slides and a link to the Human Made white paper at https://pwcc.cc/go/loop2018
