The second day of WCUS yesterday and I managed to see two talks. This brings the total of talks to two ;)
I started the day in Joost de Valk’s talk about SEO and finished with Matt‘s annual State of the Word, Brian has written up a summary on Post Status.
I spent a small chunk of the day figuring out a bug in the Twenty Seventeen video header with a few others. It looks like we’ll be using feature queries. If this gets in, it will be the first use in a default theme which is a little exciting.

First day of WordCamp US yesterday, the conference is the reason for this trip.
These things are usually about the hallway track so I made the effort to do that for the day.
For lunch I went to Cafe Lift with a small group to have the French Toast. Aaron sold this as the best meal in Philly’s best cafe.
After the burger incident I was sceptical but it was damn good.
For dinner I went to a restaurant with some HM and various WordPress people.
It was another day spent with people I know online and I loved it.

Travel day yesterday, I caught the train from NYC to Philly. Whoever told me not to fly, good work that person.
One of the reasons I love this industry is the willingness for people to share their techniques. I spent the trip down with Stuart from XWP talking review processes and coding.
Similar conversations at the Post Status Publish after party. I also got the chance to meet others on the core team I’ve worked with an not met.
Dinner was with a bunch of HM work mates, in most cases catching up for the first time since WordCamp Europe.

Y’all should know the electoral college is not even close to the beginning of the problems with how y’all run your elections.

Another ideal day for indoor activities yesterday. I took another walk through Central Park.
The evening’s entertainment was Hamilton the Musical. I was painfully excited.
I knew Broadway theatres were small but the Rogers Theatre is TINY.
The show’s set is really bare, a turntable is the fanciest element. I loved this.
When transferring to Broadway it would be easy to use all the tricks but the producers have let the songs speak for themselves. These songs are good enough to leave alone.
I’ve not seen another musical that’s music from start to finish and I’m so glad I did.

Another late start yesterday because I’m on holiday and can. It was quite late the night before getting back from Downtown, but – really- I just like a good sleep in.
It was a miserable yesterday: rain and a lot of it. Several people have told me to go to MoMA so it seemed an opportune time.
As part of the exhibit celebrating the UNHCR they have a wire map of the world with sound scape & barbs embedded. I loved it.
Dinner was with some guys from rtCamp and WPML at a Mexican restaurant in Hells Kitchen.
Tonight. I. See. Hamilton.

A late start yesterday as I was a little tired. Walking hundreds of blocks each day will do that.
I walked through Central Park first thing, going where the spirit took me. I spent a couple of hours looking around.
I left the park in what looked to be a nice part of town and soon found I was walking along Madison Avenue. That explains the nice.
After a late lunch I went to the 9/11 Museum. It’s beautifully curated.
Dinner was at the Mineta Taven bar. I chatted to the guy sitting next to me, as you do on holiday.

I love days spent with people I usually know online.
The day began in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Unfortunately I missed the ferry so had to Uber from Manhattan.
I meet with Rob and Petya from HM for breakfast at 5 Leaves. We all had eggs & shared some pancakes.
Palo then joined us and we spent a few hours walking around Greenpoint.
For dinner we joined up with Joe & Aaron for a burger at Ruby’s Cafe. For Aaron’s much hyped Aussie burger.
It had its flaws (it’s a sandwich!!!). The best is a stretch but a pretty damn good Aussie burger, as promised.
